  • Snowboard jackets Teratex – NORDBLANC women’s snowboard jackets and anoraks fit more loosely – more than half have an Oversized fit. They have a TERATEX® membrane (15,000–20,000 mm), a snow skirt and FURTHERM insulation rated down to −20 °C (NORDBLANC warmth scale).
  • Taped-seam ski jackets Teratex – NORDBLANC women’s winter and ski jackets with a TERATEX® membrane (10,000–15,000 mm), rated down to −20 °C (NORDBLANC warmth scale). They have a detachable hood, waterproof zips and a ski pass pocket – for the slopes and every day.

How to choose a women’s ski jacket for the conditions

All NORDBLANC women’s ski jackets are waterproof, and almost all are rated down to −20 °C on NORDBLANC’s indicative warmth scale. So choose your ski jacket according to the weather you ski in, how many hours you spend on the slopes and how you want it to fit.

Recreational skiing and everyday wear

Winter and ski jackets with a TERATEX® membrane (10,000–15,000 mm) are rated down to −20 °C (NORDBLANC warmth scale), and most have a detachable hood and a snow skirt. They are enough for skiing in good weather, and you can wear them in the city too.

Full days on the slopes, snowfall and wet snow

Most models have a TERATEX® membrane (15,000–20,000 mm) and FURTHERM insulation. Besides a snow skirt, they mostly also have taped seams, waterproof and ventilation zips and a ski pass pocket on the sleeve.

The toughest conditions

The highest water column – 30,000 mm – is found on jackets with a DERMIZAX™ membrane and on one model with a 30,000 mm TERATEX® membrane. DERMIZAX™ jackets are insulated with THERMOLITE® and, in addition to taped seams and ventilation zips, also have an inner goggle pocket.

Softshell and snowboard jackets

Ski softshell jackets combine stretchy softshell with a TERATEX® or SOFTSHIELD® membrane (10,000–20,000 mm); most are insulated and have a close-fitting Slim fit. Snowboard jackets and anoraks have a TERATEX® membrane (15,000–20,000 mm), and more than half of them have a looser Oversized fit; the anoraks also go on over your head.

How to read a ski jacket’s specifications

  • Water column (mm) – the higher the number, the more water pressure the fabric can withstand; with TERATEX®, it is right in the name (TERATEX® 15000 = 15,000 mm). The women’s ski jackets in the range have 10,000–30,000 mm.
  • Breathability (g/m²/24 h) – the ability to let water vapour from sweat escape; women’s ski jackets have 8,000–30,000 g. For fast skiing and uphill climbs, choose 15,000 g or more.
  • Insulation – most jackets are insulated with FURTHERM synthetic fill, the DERMIZAX™ jackets with THERMOLITE® and some models with THERMOLITE® EcoMade T-DOWN. Synthetic insulation keeps you warm even when damp and dries quickly.
  • Fit – most jackets have a Regular fit; the softshell models are mostly closer-fitting (Slim fit), the anoraks and some snowboard jackets looser (Oversized).
  • Features for the slopes – almost all models have a snow skirt (powder skirt) that keeps snow from getting under the jacket. Most also have a ski pass pocket, taped seams, waterproof and ventilation zips and a goggle pocket.

How to care for your ski jacket

Wash the jacket according to the care label on a gentle cycle with a liquid detergent for technical fabrics. Don’t use fabric softener – it clogs the membrane and reduces breathability. After washing, hang the jacket up loosely away from direct sunlight and radiators. As soon as water stops beading on the surface, reproof it.

Frequently asked questions

What water column should a women’s ski jacket have?

For recreational skiing in good weather, 10,000 mm is enough; for whole days on the slopes, falling snow and wet snow, choose 15,000–20,000 mm. NORDBLANC women’s ski jackets most often have a TERATEX® membrane (15,000–20,000 mm); the greatest margin, 30,000 mm, comes mainly from jackets with a DERMIZAX™ membrane. Taped seams and waterproof zips, which most models have, complete the waterproofing.

Women’s ski jacket or snowboard jacket?

It mainly depends on how loosely you want the jacket to fit – the protection is the same. NORDBLANC women’s snowboard jackets and anoraks protect you just like the ski jackets, with a TERATEX® membrane (15,000–20,000 mm), and they have a snow skirt and FURTHERM insulation rated down to −20 °C (NORDBLANC warmth scale). Most of them fit more loosely, though – more than half have an Oversized fit.

When should I choose a softshell jacket for skiing?

When you want a stretchy, close-fitting jacket on the slopes. NORDBLANC women’s ski softshell jackets have a TERATEX® or SOFTSHIELD® membrane with a water column of 10,000–20,000 mm; most of them are insulated (rated down to −20 °C on the NORDBLANC warmth scale) and have a Slim fit. A light, uninsulated softshell is better suited to spring skiing and active movement; for freezing weather and snowfall, choose an insulated jacket.

How should a women’s ski jacket fit?

The jacket should cover your lower back even when you lean forward, and the sleeves shouldn’t expose your wrists when you stretch your arms out in front of you as you do when skiing. There must be enough room underneath for a base layer and a mid-layer. NORDBLANC women’s ski jackets mostly have a Regular fit; the softshell ski jackets are mostly closer-fitting (Slim fit) and the anoraks looser (Oversized).

What temperatures are women’s ski jackets suitable for?

Almost all NORDBLANC women’s ski jackets are rated down to −20 °C on NORDBLANC’s indicative warmth scale. Their warmth comes from FURTHERM, THERMOLITE® or THERMOLITE® EcoMade T-DOWN synthetic insulation, which works even when damp. For severe cold or windy chairlift rides, add a base layer and a fleece underneath.
