What you'll find in this category

  • Waterproof winter jackets – NORDBLANC women’s waterproof winter jackets with FURTHERM insulation are rated down to −20 °C (NORDBLANC warmth scale). Most models have a TERATEX® membrane with a water column of 10,000 mm – for wet snow, rain and freezing weather.
  • Winter jackets Classic – NORDBLANC women’s Classic winter jackets – mainly quilted jackets with FURTHERM or THERMOLITE® EcoMade T-DOWN insulation. They are light, mostly rated down to −10 °C (NORDBLANC warmth scale) and suit everyday wear in the city.
  • Winter jackets without hood – NORDBLANC women’s winter jackets without a hood are light quilted models rated down to −10 °C (NORDBLANC warmth scale). Their warmth comes from FURTHERM or THERMOLITE® EcoMade T-DOWN insulation – for everyday wear in the city and on walks.
  • Light padded jackets – NORDBLANC women’s light padded jackets are transitional jackets with FURTHERM insulation for mild winters, cool spring and autumn days and everyday wear in the city. On the NORDBLANC warmth scale, they are rated down to 0 °C.
  • Down jackets – NORDBLANC women’s down jackets are light and rated down to −10 °C (NORDBLANC warmth scale). They are filled with down and feathers in a 90/10 or 70/30 ratio, and two models have a detachable fur collar – for dry, freezing weather and the city.

How to choose a women’s winter jacket for your needs

First, decide where you’ll wear the jacket most often. For dry cold in the city, a light insulated quilted jacket is enough; for wet snow and rain, you need a membrane, and for the mountains and skiing, a jacket with snow-specific features.

For the city and everyday wear

You’ll find the most models among the Classic winter jackets. These are mainly quilted jackets with FURTHERM (hollow polyester fibre) or THERMOLITE® EcoMade T-DOWN insulation – light and mostly rated down to −10 °C on NORDBLANC’s indicative warmth scale. You can also choose models without a hood. For mild winters and the in-between seasons, there are light padded jackets rated down to 0 °C.

For wet snow and rain

Quilted jackets without a membrane can handle light rain at most. For wet snow, choose waterproof winter jackets: most have a TERATEX® membrane with a water column of 10,000 mm, and all have FURTHERM insulation and are rated down to −20 °C (NORDBLANC warmth scale). Some models also have a snow skirt or waterproof zips.

For freezing weather

It is mainly the waterproof jackets with a TERATEX® membrane that are rated down to −20 °C on the NORDBLANC warmth scale; among the Classic jackets, only one model is. Light down jackets, filled 90/10 or 70/30 (the ratio of down to feathers), are rated down to −10 °C; down loses its insulating ability when damp, so it is best for dry, freezing weather.

For the mountains and skiing

Some waterproof winter jackets have a snow skirt and a ski pass pocket and can also handle occasional skiing. If you ski regularly, a women’s ski jacket is the better choice: it usually has a higher water column (15,000–30,000 mm) and features for the slopes, such as ventilation zips and taped seams.

How to read a winter jacket’s specifications

  • Warmth – NORDBLANC’s indicative warmth scale (down to 0 °C, down to −10 °C, down to −20 °C, down to −30 °C and below) helps you compare models. Everyone feels the cold differently; if you tend to get cold or will be standing outside for a long time, choose a higher level.
  • Insulation – quilted jackets are filled with FURTHERM or THERMOLITE® EcoMade T-DOWN synthetic insulation, which works even when damp and dries quickly; for down jackets, the 90/10 or 70/30 ratio gives the proportion of down to feathers.
  • Membrane and water column – the water column in millimetres tells you how much water pressure the fabric can withstand. With TERATEX®, the water column is right there in the name – TERATEX® 10000 means 10,000 mm, which handles rain and wet snow in everyday wear.
  • Breathability – shows how much water vapour from sweat passes through the fabric. Waterproof winter jackets have 8,000–10,000 g/m²/24 h, which is enough for walking and normal activity.
  • Fit – all women’s winter jackets have a Regular fit; when choosing your size, allow for a sweatshirt or thin gilet underneath.
  • Details – the hood, snow skirt, ski pass pocket or fur collar vary by model; you’ll find each jacket’s features on its product page.

Technologies and materials

FURTHERM®

Breathable thermal imsulation. Keeps the body warm and comfortable. In bad weather conditions accumulates body heat and releasing it back in need, helping to maintain the required body temperature. It guarantees comfort and convenience in all activities.

THERMOLITE® ECOMADE T-DOWN

THERMOLITE® EcoMade T-DOWN technology is made from 100% recycled PET bottles. This 500 fill power synthetic insulation offers several advantages over down: higher loft, better moisture resistance, warmer when wet, and dries faster. This technology is also breathable, soft and lofty with an excellent hand, and offers high compressibility (packable) with rapid recovery power.

TERATEX® 10000ELP Core

ELP marked membranes are specifically optimized for female needs of temperature regulation. The medium level of NORDBLANC's top-of-the-line fabrics. Waterproof fabric that repels water from the surface of the fabric, while it offers the necessary waterproofness, breathability and wind protection. The product made of this fabric is suitable for everyday sports and everyday use.

Frequently asked questions

Which women’s winter jacket is the warmest?

The highest warmth level among women’s winter jackets is ‘down to −20 °C’ on NORDBLANC’s indicative warmth scale. It is found mainly on waterproof winter jackets with a 10,000 mm TERATEX® membrane and FURTHERM insulation, and on just one Classic model. Quilted and down jackets are rated down to −10 °C. You can also add warmth by layering – wear a base layer and a fleece or gilet under the jacket.

Long or short winter jacket?

It depends on how you wear it: a longer cut gives better protection when walking and standing in the cold, while a shorter jacket is more practical in the car and for sport. You’ll find longer cuts among NORDBLANC women’s winter coats – they have FURTHERM insulation, some models also a TERATEX® membrane (10,000–20,000 mm), and most are rated down to −20 °C on the NORDBLANC warmth scale. Shorter cuts – quilted, waterproof and down – are among the women’s winter jackets.

Is a quilted jacket the same as a down jacket?

Not necessarily – the quilting just divides the insulation into chambers so that it doesn’t shift, and inside there can be down or synthetic fill. NORDBLANC women’s quilted jackets have FURTHERM or THERMOLITE® EcoMade T-DOWN synthetic insulation, which keeps you warm even when damp and is easy to wash. Down in a 90/10 or 70/30 ratio (down and feathers) is used in the women’s down jackets.

Is a women’s winter jacket suitable for skiing too?

For occasional skiing, yes, as long as it has a membrane and snow-specific features: some waterproof women’s winter jackets have a TERATEX® membrane (10,000–15,000 mm), a snow skirt and a ski pass pocket. A quilted jacket without a membrane doesn’t belong on the slopes – it soon gets damp in wet snow. For regular skiing, women’s ski jackets are the better choice: all have a water column of 10,000–30,000 mm, almost all a snow skirt and most also ventilation zips and taped seams.

What size women’s winter jacket should I choose?

Use the size chart on the jacket’s product page to compare its bust and sleeve-length measurements with your own. All NORDBLANC women’s winter jackets have a Regular fit; if you’ll wear a sweatshirt or gilet underneath, try the size on with that layer. If you’re between two sizes and want a thicker layer underneath, go for the larger one.
