Technologies and materials
FURTHERM®
Breathable thermal imsulation. Keeps the body warm and comfortable. In bad weather conditions accumulates body heat and releasing it back in need, helping to maintain the required body temperature. It guarantees comfort and convenience in all activities.
TERATEX® 10000 Core
The medium level of NORDBLANC's top-of-the-line fabrics. Waterproof fabric that repels water from the surface of the fabric, while it offers the necessary waterproofness, breathability and wind protection. The product made of this farbic is suitable for everyday sports and everyday use.
THERMOLITE® ECOMADE T-DOWN
THERMOLITE® EcoMade T-DOWN technology is made from 100% recycled PET bottles. This 500 fill power synthetic insulation offers several advantages over down: higher loft, better moisture resistance, warmer when wet, and dries faster. This technology is also breathable, soft and lofty with an excellent hand, and offers high compressibility (packable) with rapid recovery power.
TECNOPOLAR® fleece
Lightweight, warm, super fine micro brushed fabric with wonderful handfeel offers high heat isolation and windchill protection.
Frequently asked questions
Which men’s winter jacket is suitable for temperatures down to −20 °C?
Look for a jacket rated down to −20 °C on NORDBLANC’s indicative warmth scale. Among men’s winter jackets, it is mainly the waterproof models with a TERATEX® membrane and FURTHERM or THERMOLITE® EcoMade T-DOWN synthetic insulation that reach this level. Quilted Classic jackets and down jackets are mostly rated down to −10 °C. If you’ll be standing around in the cold for a long time, also wear a base layer and a fleece or gilet under the jacket.
How warm is a men’s down jacket?
NORDBLANC men’s down jackets are rated down to −10 °C on NORDBLANC’s indicative warmth scale. They are filled in a 70/30 or 90/10 ratio, meaning 70% or 90% down and the rest feathers; a higher share of down means a loftier fill. The jackets are light and suit dry, freezing weather, or work as a warm layer under a ski jacket. For wet snow and rain, synthetic insulation is more practical, because down loses its insulating ability when damp.
What is a 3-in-1 winter jacket?
A 3-in-1 jacket consists of a waterproof outer jacket and a detachable inner fleece jacket, which you can wear together or separately. In winter, you wear them together; in the rain, the outer jacket on its own is enough, and the fleece works as a light jacket for cool days. NORDBLANC men’s 3-in-1 jackets have a TERATEX® membrane with a water column of 15,000–20,000 mm, a TECNOPOLAR® fleece and a detachable hood.
Can I use a men’s winter jacket for skiing too?
For occasional skiing in good weather, yes – as long as it has a membrane and snow-specific features: some waterproof winter jackets with a TERATEX® membrane have a snow skirt and a ski pass pocket. Quilted jackets without a membrane soon get damp in wet snow, so don’t choose them for the slopes. For regular skiing, there are men’s ski jackets with a water column of 10,000–30,000 mm, a snow skirt and, in most cases, ventilation zips and taped seams.
How do I wash a winter jacket?
Follow the care label: wash technical jackets on a gentle cycle with a liquid detergent for technical fabrics and without fabric softener, which impairs how the membrane and insulation work. Do up the zips before washing; afterwards, hang the jacket up loosely and let it dry away from direct sunlight and not in direct contact with a radiator. Wash a down jacket with a down wash, dry it thoroughly and shake it out regularly so that the down doesn’t clump. When water stops beading on the surface, reproof the jacket.
