What you'll find in this category

  • Insulated softshell jackets – NORDBLANC women’s insulated softshell jackets are rated down to −10 °C (NORDBLANC warmth scale) thanks to the fleece inside, while staying stretchy. SOFTSHIELD® 10000 with a water column of 10,000 mm stands up to wind and rain on winter walks.
  • Softshell coats – NORDBLANC women’s softshell coats have a longer cut and are made of SOFTSHIELD® 10000 with a water column of 10,000 mm. Lightweight ones for spring and insulated ones with fleece (down to −10 °C on the NORDBLANC warmth scale), most with an adjustable hood.
  • Softshell anoraks – NORDBLANC women’s softshell anoraks go on over your head, and all have an adjustable hood and an adjustable hem. They are made of SOFTSHIELD® 10000 (10,000 mm) and come as lightweight models or fleece-insulated ones rated down to −10 °C (NORDBLANC warmth scale).
  • Spring softshell jackets – NORDBLANC women’s spring softshell jackets for day trips, hikes and the city – lightweight, uninsulated and highly wind-resistant. SOFTSHIELD® 10000 has a water column of 10,000 mm; most have a hood and waterproof zips.
  • 3LL lightweight sports softshell jackets – NORDBLANC women’s 3LL lightweight sports softshell jackets are built for a faster pace – running, cycling, cross-country skiing and brisk hiking. They have reflective details and a water column of 10,000 mm, and most also have taped seams.
  • Softshell sweatshirts – NORDBLANC women’s softshell sweatshirts in slightly stretchy SOFTSHIELD® with fleece inside. They have no membrane, only repel water and are rated down to 0 °C (NORDBLANC warmth scale) – for cool days without rain and under a jacket.

Which women’s softshell jacket to choose

Softshell is a soft, stretchy fabric that protects you from wind and rain while still breathing. NORDBLANC women’s softshell jackets, anoraks and coats are made of SOFTSHIELD® 10000, a three-layer laminate with a water column of 10,000 mm and a breathability of 10,000 g/m²/24 h. The exception is the softshell sweatshirts, which have no membrane and are only water-repellent.

For the city and walks: a coat or an anorak

Softshell coats have a longer cut that covers the hips, and most of them have an adjustable hood. The insulated coats and anoraks have a fleece lining and are rated down to −10 °C on NORDBLANC’s indicative warmth scale; the lightweight, uninsulated models are for spring and autumn. The anoraks always have an adjustable hood and an adjustable hem.

For day trips and hikes: a lightweight spring jacket

Lightweight softshell jackets are uninsulated and have high wind resistance. Most have an adjustable hood, reflective details and waterproof zips. In colder weather, wear a sweatshirt underneath – you’ll still move more freely than in a winter jacket.

For running, cycling and cross-country skiing: a 3LL sports softshell

3LL sports softshell jackets are built for a faster pace: they have reflective details, most have taped seams and some also have waterproof zips and a hood. They are suitable for running, cycling, cross-country skiing and fast hiking.

For cool, dry days: a softshell sweatshirt

A softshell sweatshirt has a durable outer surface and warm fleece inside; it is rated down to 0 °C on the NORDBLANC warmth scale. It has no membrane, so it is only water-repellent – for rain, choose a jacket in SOFTSHIELD® 10000.

What to look for in a softshell

  • Water column of 10,000 mm – the jackets, anoraks and coats can handle rain and wet snow on a walk or hike. Only some models have taped seams, mainly the 3LL sports softshells; for an all-day downpour, choose an outdoor jacket with a TERATEX® membrane and taped seams.
  • Breathability of 10,000 g/m²/24 h – water vapour from sweat escapes even when you’re walking uphill.
  • Wind resistance – rated high on the NORDBLANC scale for the spring jackets and insulated anoraks; the sports softshells and sweatshirts have medium wind resistance.
  • Warmth – insulated jackets, anoraks and coats are rated down to −10 °C, sweatshirts down to 0 °C, and the lightweight jackets are uninsulated. These ratings are on NORDBLANC’s indicative warmth scale.
  • Stretch and fit – most models have 5–12% elastane in the outer fabric, and all have a Regular fit.

How to wear a softshell throughout the year

In spring and on warmer autumn days, a lightweight softshell jacket over a T-shirt is enough; when it cools down, add a sweatshirt underneath. In cold autumn weather and in winter, reach for an insulated jacket, anorak or coat with fleece, rated down to −10 °C (NORDBLANC warmth scale). For longer periods in freezing temperatures or for the slopes, an insulated winter or ski jacket is more suitable.

Technologies and materials

SOFTSHIELD® TERATEX® 10000

Functional outdoor material for high demanding outdoor activities. Main advantage is elasticity, heat insulation, great windproofness, waterproofness and perfect breathability. The material consists of a three laminated layers. Carefully combining the most compatible layers, we created light, elastic and soft fabric with excellent thermal insulation.

SOFTSHIELD®

SOFTSHIELD® is a soft, flexible material perfectly suited to outdoor activities thanks to its properties and elasticity. You'll love its reliable water resistance, breathability, and exceptional wind resistance.

DRYFOR®

A functional fiber that excellently absorbs body moisture and wicks away sweat. Thanks to the micro-grooves on its surface, moisture is efficiently carried to the outer side of the fabric where it evaporates quickly, keeping your skin dry and comfortable. This property allows the material to provide perfect body temperature regulation.

Frequently asked questions

Is a women’s softshell jacket waterproof?

Jackets, anoraks and coats made of SOFTSHIELD® 10000 have a water column of 10,000 mm and count as waterproof on NORDBLANC’s waterproofness scale – they can handle rain and wet snow on a walk. The exception is the softshell sweatshirts without a membrane, which only repel water. For an all-day downpour, an outdoor jacket with a TERATEX® membrane and taped seams is the safer choice.

What temperatures is an insulated women’s softshell jacket suitable for?

Insulated NORDBLANC women’s softshell jackets, anoraks and coats have a fleece lining and are rated down to −10 °C on NORDBLANC’s indicative warmth scale. That’s enough for winter walks and trips when you’re on the move. If you’ll be standing outside for a long time or expect harder frost, add a warm fleece under the softshell or choose an insulated winter jacket.

Softshell jacket or softshell coat?

For sport, hiking and cycling, a shorter jacket that doesn’t get in the way is more practical. A softshell coat is longer, covers the hips and is better suited to the city, walks and windy weather. NORDBLANC coats and jackets are both made of SOFTSHIELD® 10000 with a water column of 10,000 mm; the insulated coats have a fleece lining and are mostly rated down to −10 °C (NORDBLANC warmth scale).

When and how should I reproof a softshell jacket?

Reproof it when water stops beading on the surface and the fabric starts to soak it up. First wash the jacket according to the care label, usually at 30 °C with a liquid detergent for technical fabrics and no fabric softener. Then use a wash-in proofer in the washing machine, or spray a proofing spray onto the clean fabric and let it dry. The care label tells you whether you can activate the water-repellent finish with heat.
