Which anorak to choose for the weather and how you will use it

The anoraks on offer differ mainly in the weather they are built for: a winter slope, cold days on the move, or spring rain. Insulation, membrane and fit change accordingly.

For the slopes and frost: snowboard anoraks

Snowboard anoraks are rated down to -20 °C on NORDBLANC’s indicative warmth scale, and the warmth is held by FURTHERM insulation. Snow and water are stopped by the TERATEX® membrane. Its water column is 15,000 or 20,000 mm, and at 20,000 mm it belongs to the Highly waterproof level on the scale. They have a snow skirt, taped seams, waterproof zips and a loose Oversized fit. Their listed activities include both skiing and snowboarding.

For cold days on the move: insulated softshell

The insulated softshell anorak is made of SOFTSHIELD® 10000 with a microfleece inside. It has a 10,000 mm water column, high wind resistance and a warmth rating of down to -10 °C on the indicative scale. The hood, hem and cuffs (hook-and-loop) can be tightened. It is not intended for the piste: skiing is not among its listed activities, only hiking and everyday wear.

For spring and autumn: lightweight anoraks

Lightweight anoraks have no insulation. The softshell anorak made of SOFTSHIELD® 10000 is stretchy and has the Waterproof level; the anorak with a TERATEX® 8,000 mm membrane has taped seams and a mesh lining. They have no rating on the warmth scale, so fine-tune your warmth with what you wear underneath.

Women’s and men’s anoraks

Snowboard anoraks come in women’s and men’s versions. They differ in sizes (women’s 34-44, men’s S-XXXL) and in a small detail of the features: only the men’s models have a ski pass pocket. The insulated and the lightweight softshell anorak are women’s models, and the lightweight anorak with a membrane is a men’s model. Only the snowboard anoraks have an Oversized fit; the rest are Regular.

What to look at in an anorak

Warmth - a figure from NORDBLANC’s indicative scale: snowboard anoraks are rated down to -20 °C, the insulated softshell down to -10 °C, and the lightweight anoraks give no rating.
Water column and waterproofness - the lightweight anorak has 8,000 mm, the softshell 10,000 mm and the snowboard anoraks 15,000-20,000 mm. On the scale, all the anoraks are Waterproof or Highly waterproof. The more wet snow or rain, the higher the value you should choose.
Wind resistance - High on the snowboard anoraks and insulated softshells, Medium on the lightweight anorak with a membrane.
Fit - Oversized is the loosest level on NORDBLANC’s fit scale; the softshell and lightweight anoraks have Regular.
Material - the snowboard anoraks and the lightweight anorak with a membrane are 100% polyester; the softshell anoraks contain 8% elastane.
Features - every anorak has a hood with an adjustable drawcord, and most have an adjustable hem. The snow skirt, inner elastic cuffs and ski pass pocket are found only on the snowboard models.

FURTHERM®

Breathable thermal insulation fill. Keeps the body warm and comfortable. In extreme weather conditions it accumulates body heat and releases it back later, helping to maintain the required body temperature. It guarantees comfort and convenience in all activities.

SOFTSHIELD® TERATEX® 10000

Functional outdoor material for demanding outdoor activities. Its main advantages are elasticity, thermal insulation, excellent wind resistance and water resistance, together with perfect breathability. The material is a three-layer laminate in which a suitable combination of materials produces a light, soft, elastic softshell with excellent thermal insulation.

TERATEX® 8000 Industries

The basic version of NORDBLANC’s top-of-the-line functional fabrics. This one is a waterproof and breathable, water-repellent material. Ideally, it protects against medium to bad weather and ensures an adequate degree of long-term functionality under common climatic conditions. The product from this material is suitable for all common activities and daily wearing.

What temperature is an anorak warm enough for?

On NORDBLANC’s indicative scale, snowboard anoraks with FURTHERM insulation are rated down to -20 °C and the insulated softshell anorak down to -10 °C. Lightweight anoraks have neither insulation nor a warmth rating; they suit spring and autumn with layers underneath. The scale is for comparing models; when standing in the wind, expect it to feel colder.

Which NORDBLANC anoraks are waterproof?

All of them: every anorak in the category has a membrane or SOFTSHIELD® material and the Waterproof or Highly waterproof level on the waterproofness scale. The snowboard ones have TERATEX® 15,000-20,000 mm (Highly waterproof at 20,000 mm), the softshell ones SOFTSHIELD® 10,000 mm and the lightweight anorak TERATEX® 8,000 mm.
