What gift for dad at Christmas or for a birthday?
Choose a gift for dad by how much time he spends outdoors and how he moves while he is there. Someone who works at the cottage or goes on long walks with the dog warms up through movement. Someone who stands in the garden, waits at a bus stop or sits by the water with a fishing rod all afternoon gets cold faster and needs a warm mid-layer. Two items work well:

A gift for a boyfriend is easier to choose when you know what he wears to go out. Someone who goes on outings at weekends and wears the same jacket in town will make use of a jacket that can do both. What decides it is the weather he takes it out in:
- A softshell jacket is for wind and showers, not for all-day rain. It is stretchy, and almost all men’s models have a water column of 10,000 mm. It suits spring and autumn, or serves as a layer in winter.
- A lightweight sports jacket is a light layer for hiking, running and cycling. Almost all have reflective details, and about half have hollow-fibre insulation. You will find them in the collection Lightweight sports jackets.
- An outdoor jacket has a TERATEX® membrane with a water column of 15,000 mm or more, and almost all models have taped seams. It is for someone who goes out in the rain too.
A wrong size shows most on a jacket, so buy one only if you are sure of the size.
What gift should you buy for a husband?
A gift for a husband often does not have to be something new: a second one of whatever he wears most is enough. If your husband always goes out in winter in the same thermal top, a second one to rotate comes in handy: one is in the wash, the other is being worn.
As a base layer, thermal underwear goes under any clothing your husband already has. What makes a good Christmas gift for a man?
A Christmas gift for a man gets used straight away, because winter is only just getting properly started. You can choose between a big gift and a small one.
A big gift is a winter jacket or coat. Choose it by where he will wear it: in town, on outings or for skiing. What gift for a man for his birthday, anniversary or Valentine’s Day?
Choose a birthday gift for a man by the season in which he celebrates, not by his age. Winter birthdays follow the Christmas advice above; the other seasons look like this:
- In summer, men’s shorts, a technical or cotton T-shirt suit, and for a cyclist cycling shorts or a jersey.
- In spring and autumn, a thin jacket for transitional weather comes in handy, for example a spring or autumn jacket.
The same applies to an anniversary gift, which can fall in any season. Valentine’s Day is in mid-February, that is, in winter, so warm items suit it: a gilet or sweatshirt if you know his size, otherwise a hat or socks by shoe size. What practical gift for a man who has everything?
A practical gift for a man who has everything is not another jacket but something that adds to his kit, something that wears out quickly or that he does not have yet. With gifts like these, the size is also easier to choose than with a jacket.

What if you do not know his size?
The easiest way to find out his clothing size is from the label in clothing that fits him. Brands differ, though, so check the measurements in the size charts: men’s clothing comes in sizes XXS-XXXL, and the charts give body measurements. If you cannot find out his size, you have three options:
- A gift with no size. Hats, sunglasses and bags are sold in one size or variant.
- A gift by number. Socks come in size ranges from 34-36 to 45-49, gloves in sizes 4-11 by the height and width of the palm.
- A voucher. With it the recipient chooses the size, colour and cut himself. Vouchers come in several values.

Choose a gift for grandad by what he does, not by his age. If he goes into the woods, walks with the grandchildren or potters in the garden, he will use a gilet, sweatshirt or jacket against wind and showers from the sections above. If he is outdoors only briefly, socks or a hat, where the size is easy to choose, are enough. It is better to check his clothing size with someone in the family and compare it with the size chart.
What gift for a man for Valentine’s Day or an anniversary?
Valentine’s Day is in winter, so warm items that you wear on a walk together suit it. The same goes for an anniversary: choose by what you do together.
