What you'll find in this category

  • Ski pants Dermizax – NORDBLANC men’s ski trousers with a DERMIZAX™ membrane: a water column of 30,000 mm and a breathability of 30,000 g/m²/24 h. Mostly insulated with FURTHERM, all with braces and rated down to −20 °C (NORDBLANC’s indicative warmth scale).
  • Ski Teratex pants – NORDBLANC men’s ski trousers, mostly with a TERATEX® 15000, 20000 or 30000 membrane – the number gives the water column in mm. Most are insulated with FURTHERM, and all have detachable braces and inner snow gaiters with anti-slip grip.

How to choose men’s ski trousers

On the slopes, ski trousers take more strain than a jacket: you sit on wet chairlift seats, kneel in the snow and occasionally fall. So choose by three things – the membrane’s water column, the insulation, and the leg and waist features. All NORDBLANC men’s ski trousers have a Regular fit, and almost all are suitable for both skiing and snowboarding.

Membrane and water column

A DERMIZAX™ membrane gives you a water column of 30,000 mm and a breathability of 30,000 g/m²/24 h – trousers like these are worth it if you ski in all weathers and for whole days. Trousers with a TERATEX® membrane mostly have a water column of 15,000–30,000 mm: 15,000 mm handles normal skiing, 20,000–30,000 mm falling snow, wet snow and snowboarding. Most models also have taped seams and waterproof zips so that water can’t get in through the seams or zips.

Insulation and layers underneath

All models are rated down to −20 °C (NORDBLANC’s indicative warmth scale). Most trousers are insulated with FURTHERM fill made of hollow polyester fibre, which keeps you warm even when damp; some models have a fleece lining. Under the trousers, wear a technical base layer that wicks away sweat – cotton holds moisture and chills you in freezing weather.

Leg and waist features

  • Detachable braces – all models have them; you can detach them and wear the trousers waist-high.
  • Waist adjustment – on all models, the waist can be tightened or loosened with tabs, so the trousers fit well even over thermal underwear.
  • Inner snow gaiters with anti-slip grip – pull them over your ski boots to keep the snow out.
  • Hem zip – most models have one, so the leg fits better over your ski boot.
  • Pre-shaped legs and stretchy fabric – on most models, the legs are shaped to your stance in ski boots and the fabric doesn’t restrict your movement.
  • Ventilation zips – some models have them for cooling down quickly during hard skiing or on spring snow.

How to read the specifications of men’s ski trousers

  • Water column (mm) – how well the fabric resists water pressure. For NORDBLANC men’s ski trousers, it is mostly 15,000–30,000 mm, and 30,000 mm for models with DERMIZAX™.
  • Breathability (g/m²/24 h) – the ability to let sweat escape from the trousers as vapour. The more you sweat when skiing, the more you’ll appreciate it; models with DERMIZAX™ have 30,000 g/m²/24 h.
  • Warmth – NORDBLANC’s indicative warmth scale for comparing models, not a standard. How warm you feel changes with wind, humidity and how much you move.
  • Taped seams and waterproof zips – tape on the inside of the seams, and zips with a waterproof coating, stop water where it would otherwise seep through, even with waterproof fabric.

How to care for men’s ski trousers

The care label gives the washing temperature, usually 30 °C for ski trousers. Use a liquid detergent for technical fabrics and leave out fabric softener, which clogs the membrane. Detach the braces and close the zips before washing. Reproof the trousers when the fabric starts to soak up water instead of letting the drops run off.

Frequently asked questions

Which men’s ski trousers should I choose?

For the slopes, choose ski trousers with a membrane, insulation and inner snow gaiters with anti-slip grip that pull over your ski boots. NORDBLANC men’s ski trousers mostly have a water column of 15,000–30,000 mm, are rated down to −20 °C on NORDBLANC’s indicative warmth scale and have detachable braces. Underneath, wear a technical base layer that wicks away sweat.

What water column should men’s ski trousers have?

For whole days on the slopes, choose at least 15,000 mm, and 20,000–30,000 mm for falling snow and wet snow; 10,000 mm is only enough for shorter ski sessions in good weather. A higher number pays off more with trousers than with a jacket, because sitting on a wet chairlift seat and kneeling in the snow put more water pressure on the fabric. NORDBLANC men’s ski trousers mostly have 15,000–30,000 mm, models with a DERMIZAX™ membrane 30,000 mm.

Do men’s ski trousers have braces?

Yes, all NORDBLANC men’s ski trousers have detachable, adjustable braces. The braces keep the trousers in place, so they don’t slip down while you ski or if you fall. When you detach them, you wear the trousers like regular waist-high trousers; on all models, the waist can be tightened with tabs.

Are men’s ski trousers suitable for snowboarding too?

Yes. Most NORDBLANC men’s ski trousers are made of stretchy fabric, and all have inner snow gaiters with anti-slip grip and braces, which skiers and snowboarders alike will appreciate. Some models are specifically labelled as ski and snowboard trousers. On a snowboard, you sit and kneel in the snow more, so a water column of 20,000 mm or more is worth it.
